I would still be very interested in learning what groups you are supporting, and why. I'd like to be more educated about the landscape of good work being done in the world! It could certainly help these groups' fundraising efforts as well, to receive such an endorsement. And thank you for your work. It is so thoughtful, moving and inspiring and I have been sharing it widely.

Please keep it free. Your voice so important and many people won’t pay to read.

No surprise there, dialugue as usual.

People like you and Peter Beinart, who are Jews committed to Judaism, are invaluable. People like me — I’m a New York City Jew, i.e. a heathen — can also help by doing what the Zionists call Jew-washing. I’m glad to do it.

Let us know who you would have donated to.

There are so many excellent substacks, and I already subscribe to a number of them. But even $5 a month adds up, and living on a retirement income limits my ability to subscribe to others I would very much like to, including yours, which I value highly. I can make an occasional contribution, but a monthly tithe is more than I can manage right now.

I am so pleased that the result and your decision went the way they did though I’d have been more than willing to pay a subscription. I started reading you regularly after hearing a discussion between Wajahat Ali and Debra Sushan which was spirited and conducted in such good faith by both of them that I started reading/watching her interviews which is how I came across you.

What in this long-winded way I’m trying to say is that you’ll be addressing mainly the choir behind a paywall. The serendipity of coming across your writing for those who are agnostic, merely curious, or even hostile results in a wider range of people exposed to your erudition and perhaps affected and changed by it.
